So this fall I went and got fake nails put on with my cousin, in hopes that I would break the chewing habit. And it sort of worked! Unfortunately, it's CRAZY expensive to get your nails redone every 2 weeks or so, so I've been trying to make my own nails beautiful.
Anyway, my new strategy is to paint my nails beautifully so that I am not tempted to pick at them, since they are so pretty!
Here are 2 of my most recent nail designs:

Hiya Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled upon your blog (via link from the Bloggess) and have been a rapt reader for the past hour. I love your bravery and your honesty and your self-awareness and your style.
Anyhoo, this post particularly caught my eye because all my life I have been an extremo-nail picker. My fingernails AND my toenails. Except for around a year a while back when I didn't do it at all, and was thrilled at the chance to not feel like I have to always wear closed-toes shoes and curl my finger tips under so other people wouldn't see what a freak I was. I don't know what made me stop (it wasn't a conscious decision) and I don't know what triggered me to start up again.
I've resigned myself to the fact that this must be my unconscious way of dealing with stress. And since it ain't crack or booze or sleeping with all the wrong people or any of a gazillion other things that could truly negatively affect my life, I've sort of come to terms with it.
But I'd still prefer to have nice looking nails; or at least not feel self-conscious about them all the time. So I just might save up the bucks to do the fake nail thing. Do they do them for toe nails too, I wonder. Though I'd probably not have the nerve to ask for that!
So, thanks for the great blogpost!
